Prior to Game 2, the last time Yamamoto completed six innings in a start was June 7, when he fired seven shutout innings at Yankee Stadium. Most missions in the game happen for a reason. If completing them for story purposes isn’t enough incentive for you; do them because you’ll likely need to do them anyway in anticipation for other tasks.

Thomson, who replaced Joe Girardi in June, deployed high-leverage lefty José Alvarado in the fifth, presumed Game 3 starter Ranger Suárez in the seventh and top option Seranthony Domínguez in the eighth. Domínguez got into a two-out jam in the bottom of the ninth when Jose Altuve singled and swiped second, but Castellanos made a terrific diving catch of a Jeremy Peña fly ball to shallow right to end the inning.

His exit velocity was down and he was mostly limited to serving singles in front of outfielders and limping station to station. That home run swing wasn’t there in the NLDS and NLCS. Now it’s back. That’s huge for the Dodgers.
Jeffrey Maier this was not. Twenty-eight years (!) after Derek Jeter was awarded a home run in Game 1 of the 1996 ALCS when Maier reached over the wall and caught a ball Tony Tarasco was camped under, Torres was given a double on a very similar play in Game 1. He hit a rocket and a fan reached over the wall and caught it.
